As a student and teacher of music, I can honestly say I have a love/hate relationship with practicing! Musical skills improve with practice yet practice can be boring, lonely and frustrating. I have not met a person who loves to be in the practice room. Music is a performing art, meant to be shared.
Listening to God can be much the same. In order to "hear" we must first "practice listening". It can be tedious and quiet at first. Friend, do not be disheartened. Time spent listening to Jesus is time well spent. There is great reward in hearing Him as we can be about His work and purposes when we are in tune with His voice.
This devotion has been written as a practice guide. It is designed in small, daily sessions, because a little time spent in daily practice is a great way to develop a new skill. You can practice on your own, with a friend, or with a group.
You can't make God speak to you, but you can put yourself in a posture of listening, creating a daily rhythm that allows the voice of the Lord to direct you.
"My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me."
--John 10:27
I have a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Ohio Wesleyan University and a Masters of Arts in Music Education from The Ohio State University. As you can see, I have no special credentials to write on anything but staff paper!
I have a passion to follow Jesus wholeheartedly and love to encourage others in their walks with Jesus.
At church I am involved with kid's ministry. My guitar skills would not land me on any main stage, but are just right for singing and dancing with children, as we make a "joyful noise unto the Lord"!
In addition to sharing a cup of coffee with friends, I love to play tennis and especially enjoy spending time with my family.
I'd love to hear from you. Please share your experiences in listening to Jesus. Feel free to contact me at the link below.
All proceeds from this book benefit the missions work of Conexión: Libertad, a family ministry center in Iquitos, Peru.
